Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer was announced as the new Official Timekeeper and sponsor of LaLiga.
LaLiga legends Raúl González and Fernando Sanz joined the President of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, and TAG Heuer Spain General Manager, Blanca Panzano at a special event to celebrate the new deal, held at the iconic Teatro Real in Madrid.
The agreement means Tag Heuer is now the Official Timekeeper of the three most important football leagues in the world: LaLiga, the Premier League and the Bundesliga. TAG Heuer’s timekeeping systems, which have a long-standing history in sport, will be used by LaLiga match officials throughout the new season.
To mark the new deal, TAG Heuer unveiled a special clock, counting down to kick-off for the new LaLiga season on Saturday August 20th.
Raúl González, a winner of LaLiga’s Best Spanish Player a record five times, who now works as LaLiga country manager for the United States, said:
“Throughout my career I enjoyed many magical minutes in LaLiga, and it is great that TAG Heuer will be responsible for timing every second of what will be a very exciting season. It’s fantastic for LaLiga, the best football league in the world, to partner with Tag Heuer, a world leading watchmaking brand.”
Fernando Sanz, who won the LaLiga title in 1997 with Real Madrid, and is now LaLiga general director for Middle East & North Africa said:
“Today’s Tag Heuer announcement marks the official countdown to the new LaLiga season, and I’m sure fans are watching the seconds until kick-off. I think it promises to be a thrilling season, following on from the great performance of Spanish clubs in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, and the star performances from LaLiga players at UEFA Euro 2016 in France.”
Javier Tebas, President of LaLiga said:
“This is an important moment in time for LaLiga and we are delighted to welcome Tag Heuer as a new partner. Tag Heuer is the latest global brand to join our expanding family of partners, which further emphasises LaLiga’s international commercial credentials and status as the greatest domestic league in the world.
“We are the best league in the world, we have the best players and now we are partners of the world's best watch brand.”
Blanca Panzano, TAG Heuer Spain General Manager said:
“We are proud to announce this association, which completes Tag Heuer’s association with the best football leagues in the world. As official timekeepers of the Bundesliga and the Premier League, the association with LaLiga, one of the largest institutions in the football world, takes our #DontCrackUnderPressure campaign another step forward, and we believe this also defines the spirit of LaLiga.”
