LABROOY TRIUMPHS IN ROUND 3 OF 2016 RAMADAN CHALLENGE SENIOR CUP

Romaldo Labrooy fought his way to the top step of the Senior Cup podium in round three of the 2016 Ramadan Challenge karting sprint series at Dubai Kartdrome in MotorCity.

Championship leader Rami Azzam set the tempo for the night with a qualifying time of 1:12.491 but he was unable to hold the advantage in race one as Atef Al Barwani took the lead and secured the win on the Kartdrome’s outdoor circuit.

Labrooy prevailed in a scrappy race two when the top six karts were bumper to bumper throughout the contest.  Atef stormed back and claimed race three but when the night’s points were calculated it was Romaldo’s consistently high placing that won him the night.

It was not so close in the Masters Category where Mohammed Ismail Ali has emerged as an overwhelming force to his class competitors.  He had three race wins on the night and he has now racked up an astonishing three trophies in a row.

Next door at the indoor circuit of Dubai Kartdrome Oscar McElroy piloted a steady course through heavy traffic to take round three in the Junior Cup.

It was not an easy journey for McElroy as the best result he had in two races was third, and on the final race grid he lined up in eighth place. Undaunted, he calmly steered his way up the grid and through the field of karts ahead.  His patience and smooth driving paid off as he capitalized on the mistakes of the race leaders and emerged from the pack with a crafty win.

Reflecting on the night Ramadan Challenge Race Director David Bright said, “That’s three rounds, three different winners for both the Juniors and Seniors.  Incredible results and now everything is up for grabs in round four.”

Prizes will be awarded to the top three drivers in each category at the end of four rounds.  The crowning prize for the Senior Cup Champion is a fully funded Rotax or Iame race weekend, courtesy of Energy Karts Dubai.

The Junior Cup Champion will also be rewarded with a fully funded race weekend of Rotax or Iame, courtesy of CRG Middle East.
