Saudi Arabia is set to host its largest exhibition focused on sustainable seafood production, the Saudi International Marine Exhibition (SIMEC), from 3-5 February 2025. The event, now in its fourth edition, is expected to attract over 12,000 attendees and aims to showcase the country’s strides in aquaculture, fisheries, and algae production.
Supported by the Kingdom’s Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture (MEWA) and the National Fisheries & Livestock Development Program (NFLDP), SIMEC highlights the sustainability and economic potential of Saudi Arabia’s seafood sector. The exhibition will feature cutting-edge technologies, international expertise and innovations in marine production, with a focus on sustainable practices.
Saudi Arabia’s seafood industry has seen significant growth, with marine production reaching 70,000 tonnes and fish farming yielding 140,000 tonnes of fish and shrimp species in 2023. The Kingdom aims to increase this figure to 600,000 tonnes by 2030, with self-sufficiency in fish products projected to surpass 95%. These goals are supported by initiatives led by NFLDP, which prioritizes investment in the sector.
Saudi Arabia’s geographical advantage—boasting over 3,000 kilometers of coastline along the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf—provides ample opportunities for aquaculture and fisheries development. SIMEC will spotlight these resources, alongside the Kingdom’s sustainability efforts, as part of its broader Vision 2030 economic diversification strategy.
Building on the success of its previous editions, SIMEC is poised for record attendance this year. The third edition of the event drew over 10,000 visitors and featured 120 exhibitors, including 60 international participants. Attendees also benefited from 20 specialized workshops covering aquaculture technology, algae production, and investment opportunities.
As Ammar Al-Ziter, CEO of City Events, the organizers of the exhibition noted that the success of the third edition of the exhibition has exceeded expectations in terms of attendance. He added that his ambition for SIMEC is for it to become a prominent landmark not only in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia but also across the Middle East, especially since it is the only exhibition of its kind in the region and to attract more international exhibitors.
