SABIC honored 62 winning students at the SABIC environment painting and photography contest, under the theme “Three Rs”, held in parallel with the Waste-Free Campaign organized by the company in collaboration with the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) in Jubail, Riyadh, and Yanbu.

Over 6000 students from 600 schools in Riyadh, Yanbu, and Jubail participated in the contest. It was organized in two parts – the first a painting contest for students aged 6-12, and the second a photography contest for students aged 12-18.

The honoring ceremony was attended by Ministry of Education officials, community members, media representatives, in addition to SABIC and affiliate officials. Badr bin Mohammed Al-Otaishan, Jubail Governor, honored the winning Jubail students, while Musaed Al-Sulaim, Yanbu Governor, honored the winning Yanbu students. On behalf of SABIC, Dr. Waleed Al-Shalfan, Vice President, Polymers, honored the winning Riyadh students.

Samir A. Al-Abdrabbuh, Vice President, Corporate Communications, explained that the goal of this contest is to encourage environment-friendly behavior among the students. The contest is part of SABIC’s continuous Corporate Social Responsibility programs and initiatives, which it undertakes in recognition of the importance of conserving the environment for future generations. Al-Abdrabbuh pointed out that the Three Rs contest is part of a work program developed by SABIC with the aim of transforming its CSR initiatives into awareness activities and campaigns for the whole community. The Three Rs refer to Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce.

The contest award committee constituted members of the General Departments of Education in Riyadh, Jubail, and Yanbu, in addition to a team of SABIC talents. By adopting such activities, the company endeavors to present its outstanding environmental performance.

SABIC’s manufacturing operations focus on mitigating its environmental footprint to the least possible level, and recycling chemical products manufactured at its plants. The company also endeavors to raise community awareness on global environmental challenges, especially climate change, resource scarcity, and waste recycling.
