Riyadh lines up tourist attractions for summer

A tourism campaign will be launched on June 8 to encourage Riyadh residents to spend their summer vacations in the city, rather than abroad.
“The campaign will be held under the auspices of the Council of Saudi Chambers, Saudi Commission for Tourism & Antiquity (SCTA) and the office of the Riyadh governor,” said Mohsin Shaikh Al-Hassan, the organising team's spokesman.

He added that the campaign, which is being held annually under the supervision of the Council of Saudi Chambers, will also showcase Riyadh as a recreational and marketing center.

“The campaign as well as the idea behind it benefits Riyadh as the capital and premier city of the Kingdom,” said Al-Hassan, who is also a TV host and Islamic scholar.
He said that exhibitions will be held in eight malls in the Saudi capital, which will be inaugurated by Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar.

“Good bargains, from 50 percent up, will be offered to visitors in the various shops of the malls included in the campaign,” he said. “Ten hotels will also give 10 percent discounts to visitors, while recreational facilities will also give discounts,” Al-Hassan added.

To make sure that agreements on discounted rates will be implemented by the malls, government inspectors will conduct checks across the city.
Participants in the campaign include the malls at Al-Akaria in Olaya district, Al-Faisalia, Kingdom Tower, Riyadh Gallery, and Hayat Mall, among others.
“The idea behind the campaign is for the residents of the Saudi capital to be encouraged to spend their vacation money in the Kingdom in support of the economy,” Al-Hassan added.

He added that the tourism campaign will continue until the end of Ramadan.

“The campaign is also operating in accordance with the SCTA's efforts under Prince Sultan bin Salman to promote local tourism,” Al-Hassan added.
