The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ICAI - Dubai chapter have appointed a new Managing Committee for the year 2017-18, led by its new Chairman, CA Naveen Sharma . The other appointments were CA Mahmood Bangara as Vice Chairman, CA Anish Mehta as Secretary and CA Sundar Subramanian Nurani as Treasurer. The Chapter also selected CA Smruti Mishra, CA Dharamajan Patteri, CA Sangeetha Nahar, CA Charu Khurana and CA Anurag Chaturvedi as Executive Members of the Managing Committee.
CA Naveen Sharma is a Chartered Accountant (CA) from ICAI, Company Secretary (CS) from ICSI, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). He also holds Diploma in Investment Development Banking and is also qualified Advance Communicator Bronze (ACB) and Advanced Competent Leader (ACL). He is also Director - Internal Audit at Al Shirawi Group (a renowned conglomerate with 34+ companies based in Dubai since last 16 years.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is the second largest accounting body in the world, with over 250,000 members. The Dubai Chapter is the largest overseas chapter of the ICAI with over 2500 members. Established 35 years ago, it has won many awards for its active participation in the community. It has also been awarded as the Best Overseas Chapter of ICAI for the fourth year in a row.
On the occasion, CA Naveen Sharma, Chairman, ICAI said, “The Dubai Chapter is the largest overseas chapter with a very active participation in the UAE community and I will do justice to their faith in me. The new committee has 3 young women members, which also compliments the UAE’s aim to becoming one of the top 25 nations worldwide excelling in the field of women’s empowerment. I look forward to giving back to the CA community and further strengthening our bonds here.”
CA Mahmood Bangara, Vice chairman, ICAI said, “Business and professional process always undergo innovative changes in Dubai and the chapter will play a constructive role in knowledge impartation. With new VAT laws, we will reiterate our role to support the transformation to the new fiscal regime.”
The new committee is a dynamic and proactive combination of talent and experience. The elected committee wants to shoulder the FTA responsibility for transitioning the economy to the post-VAT era through technical seminars with a particular focus on VAT for its members. The committee will also organize various workshops and seminars for its members to help CA professionals become global leaders, prepared to lead after 2020.
