Fatf Backs Saudi Efforts To Strengthen Global Cooperation To Fight Corruption

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) supports Saudi Arabia’s efforts to strengthen cooperation among anti-corruption agencies around the world in order to enhance compliance of the taskforce’s recommendations, said Dr. Marcus Pleyer, the chairman of the FATF.

The FATF chief made the remarks during a virtual meeting with Mazen Bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, president of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

Pleyer thanked the Kingdom for holding the meeting and noted that illicit funds are one of the gates of corruption as he discussed issues of common interest with the Nazaha chief.

Meanwhile, Al-Kahmous apprised the FATF chief of Saudi leadership’s efforts to impress upon G20 to adopt several pioneering G20 initiatives to fight corruption.

It is noteworthy that one of the most prominent of these initiatives is the adoption of the first ministerial meeting to combat corruption which will be held under the Saudi presidency on Oct. 22.

The ministerial meeting is expected to discuss the most important challenges in the fight against corruption, and prepare a road map for overcoming these challenges.
