Dar Al-Hekma students win SR25,000 design award

A group of senior students at Dar Al-Hekma University (DAH) recently won SR25,000 in a design competition to create a new brand identity for Tarahom Charitable organization.
Sara Al-Saeg, Jamana Mattar, Alla Bogari and Haya Al-Garny are the senior students who won the award. They are studying graphic design at the university.
They won for a concept linking prisoners with their families and society at large. The charity takes care of current and former prisoners, and their families.
“Dar Al-Hekma University exposes students to as many real life experiences as possible, to link theory with practical implementation. This always enriches the learning experience and prepares them for the workforce so they can hit the ground running after graduation,” said Suhair Hassan Al-Qurashi, the president of DAH University.
Tarahom approached DAH at the beginning of 2015, introduced the organization and their services and launched the competition to create a new brand identity.
Twenty senior graphic design students participated in the competition. The students were divided into six groups and each group submitted two entries.
Abdulrahaman Al-Zaharani, executive manager of Tarahom, said it was a great experience working with the students. He said he was surprised to see the students producing such professional work even though they have not graduated yet.
He said it was difficult to choose a winner because all the work was excellent.
“We are very thankful to all Dar Al-Hekma University members and we hope that we will have another opportunity to work together again,” he said.
The logo came with chains representing security, a heart for humanity and mercy, and a Rubik’s Cube symbolizing a puzzle that needs to be solved. The aim was to show how the organization helps prisoners and their families solve their problems, said Al-Zaharani.
