Acwa explores 4.5GW renewable energy project in Mongolia for power exports to China

ACWA Power Co. (Acwa) signed a cooperation memorandum with Mongolia’s Sun Step Power to explore opportunities to develop and generate renewable electricity in Mongolia for export to China.

According to an official statement, the memorandum also covers opportunities to store solar and wind power using utility-scale battery systems, alongside the infrastructure needed to transmit and export electricity to China or other markets mutually agreed upon by both parties.

The memorandum aims to establish a baseline for a cross-border project with a target capacity of 4.5GW, supported by a 500MWh battery energy storage system.

It was signed on the sidelines of the 25th World Petroleum Congress, held in Saudi Arabia alongside Riyadh Energy Week, in the presence of Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and Acwa Chairman Mohammad Abunayyan.
