The Department of Planning and Development– Trakhees, of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, honored companies that are committed to implementing green building standards in the special development zones under its jurisdiction in Dubai with a "Green Building" certificate. This recognition is in appreciation of their efforts and adherence to sustainability standards within the Emirate. The ceremony was held at the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel in Port Rashid, attended by building owners, specialized consultants, real estate developers, and strategic partners.
In his opening speech, H.E. Eng. Abdullah Mohammed Belhoul, CEO of the Department of Planning and Development– Trakhees, expressed pride in the collaborative efforts and partnerships established with all stakeholders to realize Dubai's ambitious environmental sustainability vision. He stated, "At Trakhees, we take pride in the partnerships we've built with a range of consultants and specialists. Earning the Green Building Certificate is not only an accomplishment for our partners but also a major step toward a more sustainable future for Dubai, rooted in our collective commitment to a healthy environment and a prosperous future”.
Belhoul explained that, based on the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, the application of green building requirements and standards in Dubai began in 2008. This initiative was part of a decision by the Executive Council of the Dubai Government to adopt the Green Building Policy, coinciding with the issuance of a circular by the PCFC to property owners and real estate consultants to start implementing green building sustainability standards.
The CEO of Trakhees added that the PCFC, through its strategic plan aligned with Dubai's vision and economic and environmental agenda, has made significant strides in promoting a clean and sustainable environment. The PCFC, represented by the Department of Planning and Development– Trakhees, adopted the Green Building Policy within Dubai's special development zones, covering buildings that meet the essential needs and well-being of their users while ensuring high energy efficiency and eco-friendly energy use.
Belhoul emphasized that adopting the green building system reflects the organization’s commitment to providing an advanced urban environment that respects natural resources and contributes to improving the quality of life for all. He noted that this system encourages energy conservation and promotes a balanced and integrated lifestyle.
He concluded his speech by thanking the attendees, stating, “The success we are celebrating today would not have been possible without your valuable efforts, active participation, and our strong partnership with all stakeholders”.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and awards to 18 consultants and green building owners who have made significant contributions to supporting and promoting green building initiatives. Additionally, plaques for buildings that achieved Trakhees' Green Building Certificate were handed to building owners to be displayed at the entrances of certified buildings that meet the sustainability standards in Dubai. The ceremony also included honoring Trakhees' sustainability engineers in recognition of their outstanding efforts in auditing sustainability standards, with an affirmation of Trakhees' ongoing commitment to leading this journey alongside its partners to achieve more environmental milestones in the future.
