The emergence of Saudi Arabia as the fastest-growing eRetail Market in the MENA region

The retail sector in Saudi Arabia is undergoing significant transformation, with eCommerce emerging as a dominant force of growth in the Kingdom’s retail spectrum. Research by the Global Retail Development Index (GDRI) states that the KSA retail industry is set for robust growth, with a forecasted compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.2% from 2023 to 2028, culminating in a market value of $142 billion.

Marked by the speed of digital commerce adoption, eCommerce is expected to play a critical role in this growth, with a projected CAGR of 15% with categories such as Hobby & Leisure accounting for 23.6% of the Saudi Arabian eCommerce revenue, followed by Electronics at 22.5%, Fashion at 17.8%, Furniture & Homeware at 11.8%, Care Products at 8.8%, DIY at 8.0%, and Grocery with the remaining 7.5%.

This rapid transformation is bolstered by innovations such as quick commerce, social commerce, and hyperlocal delivery services, all of which have become crucial in shaping the future of retail, supported by high internet penetration, increasing smartphone usage, a rise in digital native shoppers, and a consumer preference for convenience.

To facilitate this growth further, Scribeminds Media recently hosted the Saudi Arabia Retail & E-commerce Summit 2024 in Riyadh where several top minds of the global retail industry including entrepreneurs, leaders, innovators, and global retail giants attended the event and contributed their insights fostering the development of the KSA retail industry. The event was powered by GreenHonchos as a Digital Commerce Enabler, sharing insights on the challenges faced by the retail sector in KSA, its ongoing digital transformation journey, and the future of retail in the region.

"The evolving behaviour of digital-native consumers goes beyond mere online shopping. Thus, the integration of omnichannel strategies is becoming not just beneficial, but essential. Brands are now recognising the necessity to blend technology-driven solutions with traditional shopping experiences to meet the evolving demands of consumers. Our recent acknowledgement as leaders in Digital Commerce at the KSA event underscores our dedication to leading the charge in this evolution." - Navin Joshua, Founder & Director at GreenHonchos.

Consumers in the KSA are rapidly adopting tech-driven shopping experiences influencing retailers to embrace the innovations and advancements supporting omnichannel strategies including Click-and-Collect Services, Virtual Try-ons, Buy Now Pay Later, Just Walk In, and more. However, adopting an omnichannel strategy in the KSA retail sector presents distinct challenges, as brands strive to keep up with contemporary trends.

During this transformative phase, brands grapple with obstacles such as fragmented technology ecosystems, difficulties in integrating data, disparate commerce channels, and digital touchpoints that fail to synchronise effectively. These issues can hinder the creation of a seamless shopping experience for customers. However, while harnessing the power of composable technology, brands can tap into this flourishing market and double or triple their annual revenue, decrease the cost per acquisition, increase customer retention, and engage wider audiences.

As a digital commerce enabler, GreenHonchos is at the forefront of this revolution, expertly merging cutting-edge technology, digital commerce channels, and tailored strategies to meet the high standards of today's digital-savvy consumers and drive significant revenue increase of growth-focused brands in the KSA region.
