Sajaya to Conduct Creative Arts Workshops at SIBF

Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah (Sajaya), a subsidiary of the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators, will be participating in the 36th edition of Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2017) with a series of creative and artistic workshops.

Running from November 1-11, 2017 at Sharjah Expo Centre and held under the theme ‘A World inside My Book,’ SIBF 2017 will see Sajaya take part in the event at a joint pavilion with Sharjah Youth Centres and Sharjah Children’s Centres, with the stand highlighting the noble objectives of the three Sharjah-based institutions.

Sajaya’s participation is in line with the cultural vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council Ruler of Sharjah and in keeping with Sajaya’s commitment to engaging with all cultural events taking place in the Emirate of Sharjah.

Sajaya will be using their participation at SIBF 2017 to conduct a series of creative and artistic workshops, engage with different segments of society and foster a culture of reading in young people through interactive templates. Young visitors to the fair will be offered a selection of fun workshops to choose from: ‘Make Wooden Dolls’, ‘Create Pen Carriers’, ‘The Sajaya Studio’, ‘Polish Your Photography Skills’, ‘Make a Microscope’, ‘Make Paper Book Marks’, and ‘Learn Storyboarding’.

The workshops and sessions will be aimed at not only nurturing the girls’ intellectual capabilities and stirring their imaginations, but also encouraging them to read and to develop their skills in creative writing. The organisation will also conduct a presentation on its vision, mission and objectives, as well as explain the programme of art and literature activities it hosts for its members.

Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah is dedicated to advancing the talents and building the confidence of girls within the age group 13 to 18 years, using creativity and the arts to help them excel in all their endeavours. It was originally founded in 2004 under the umbrella of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs as a subsidiary department of Sharjah Children Centres.

In 2012, Sajaya was declared an independent body following an administrative order issued by HH Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. Its remit is to cultivate innovation, creativity and inventiveness and to support young girls who are ambitious and committed to pursuing a bright future for themselves and the Emirate of Sharjah.
