Customer Challenges:

Established in 1960, the Civil Services Commission (CSC) of Kuwait is responsible for overseeing the development and performance of civil service systems and staff across the State of Kuwait. In its role, the entity acts as the central personnel authority, responsible for instating effective employment processes to recruit ideal candidates, in addition to overseeing the establishment of appropriate payroll, training and development mechanisms across all public entities.

The critical role that the CSC plays in the overall government agenda mandates the need for the entity to invest in the right technology solution, not only to protect the wealth of critical data pertaining to personnel and departments, but also ensure the uninterrupted access and delivery of critical information and services to internal and remote users across the nation.

In addition, the CSC needed a solution that would minimize duplication of data across sites and departments, to enhance performance while effectively enabling mandatory data retention periods.

CSC and EMC together embarked on an ambitious project aimed at completely replacing traditional tape based infrastructure with a complete end to end backup and recovery solution that provisioned the agility, efficiency and de-duplication capabilities to support the CSC’s objectives.

CSC selected EMC Avamar® to create the next generation backup infrastructure that fuelled backup and recovery performance through heightened automation, improving storage utilization and performance resulting in significant cost savings. EMC Data Domain Boost allows CSC to avail of transparent load balancing and new deduplication capabilities to increase performance of critical applications. CSC came full circle with the project with the deployment of EMC RecoverPoint to enable continuous data protection and to enable application recovery at any point in time.

The solution allows CSC to improve critical data retention policies, designed to meet compliance regulations and to expedite recovery speeds for many applications and files – reducing the recovery times from months to days, from days to hours and from hours to minutes.

Together with EMC, CSC has powered a performance backed infrastructure to support the entity’s critical role in the overall government agenda. The deployment provisions the scale, management simplicity and efficiency that CSC needs to successfully cope with surging amounts of data and take a step forward in its journey to extend new Back-Up-As-A-Service capabilities, to internal and external stakeholders across numerous public entities in the State of Kuwait.
