JESS educated in solutions for smart and sustainable homes

UAE-based home maintenance company Hitches & Glitches provides visitors to the JESS Spring Fair with energy saving tips and the lowdown on hi-tech gadgets for smarter homes

Progressive UAE-based home maintenance company, Hitches & Glitches (H&G), gave out some timely lessons in sustainability and smart home technology to local community members and pupils at the Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) Spring Fair at Arabian Ranches recently.

Part of the Farnek Group, Hitches & Glitches, despite the inclement weather, managed to get their ‘green tech’ message across to parents and children alike through a series of fun and games, raffle prizes and one-on-one practical advice about running a smarter, more energy efficient home.

The company also showcased a selection of smart home gadgets, such as remote monitoring sensors, which alert residents to humidity and temperature changes as well as imminent flooding; the Danalock smart lock, which allows users to grant time-limited, or recurring access for guests to their home; the Avea dynamic mood lighting, which can not only brighten or soften lighting, it can change shades to suit your mood, as well as other products including remote smart home cameras and window sensors, all conveniently operated from a smart phone.

“We enjoyed talking directly to parents and children about energy efficiency, water saving devices and general waste management. We also discussed basic measures such as switching off lights when leaving a room, shutting doors and windows, to keep indoor room temperatures moderate and drawing curtains in underused rooms to keep them cool. Small steps I know, but residents will be amazed by the amount they can save on their utility bills each month,” said James Day, Director, Hitches & Glitches.

Another product that was particularly well received was Hitches & Glitches’ advanced Wi-Fi solution, using Linksys state-of-the-art networking technology.

“Residents often complain about being restricted to one room or an area at home, where they can get a decent Wi-Fi connection, or get totally frustrated with constantly losing internet connectivity. It could be a Skype call, a game you've nearly finished, or a download.

“We all know how annoying it can be, but technology has moved on, the latest cutting edge routers and boosters from our partner Linksys, can guarantee uninterrupted Wi-Fi connectivity of the highest quality,” added Day.

The H&G team also highlighted the company’s range of more traditional maintenance services, including electrical, plumbing, A/C, general and specialist cleaning and pest control.

H&G also donated a number of raffle prizes, including a three-hour handyman service, which was claimed by one lucky winner from The Springs, and five eco-friendly solar powered light jars, which went to a resident of the Arabian Ranches.

Farnek has been involved with JESS since 2008, when the company installed a number of energy saving modules and swimming pool covers, that helped JESS to significantly reduce its carbon emissions and generate major cost savings through reduced DEWA bills.
