Majid Al Futtaim’s two much-loved shopping destinations in the Sultanate, City Centre Muscat, and City Centre Qurum join forces with Oman Cancer Association (OCA) in their mission to empower people and spread the awareness of deadly yet treatable disease; breast cancer. City Centre Muscat and City Centre Qurum will host a comprehensive range of events from 18 October until 1 November. This initiative underlines City Centre mall’s sustainability vision of developing prosperous communities that promote well-being and engagement, while creating great moments for everyone, everyday.
Breast cancer is still today a growing health problem worldwide, the second most common malignancy, and the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women. In Oman, it is the most common cancer in females, and has been reported to effect much younger women in recent years.
“City Centre Muscat and City Centre Qurum are very proud to be a supporter of the Oman Cancer Association Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign”, said Husam Al Mandhari, Senior Mall Manager, City Centre Muscat. “It is through this widespread campaign that women are able to educate themselves and be made aware that early detection and treatment saves lives.”
On this note, City Centre Qurum will turn pink at night for the whole month of October to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness, lighting up with a stunning illumination. The hope is that the pink lights serve as a reminder of the importance of early detection.
From 18 - 22 October, City Centre Muscat in collaboration with OCA will host an engaging awareness campaign. On Tuesday, 18 October at 8 PM, an opening ceremony was hosted in the leisure court area of the mall. The program included an informative presentation explaining the mammography process, fine needle biopsy, and ultrasound. Additionally, a specialist was available to teach women clinical breast examinations empowering them to detect any early signs, while light entertainment music and children’s corner kept families and loved ones busy.
Also, from 18 - 22 October from 12 PM to 10PM, Oman Cancer Association will provide the Mommogram facility to female shoppers, aged 40 and above, at City Centre Muscat, and from 23 till 29 October in City Centre Qurum. Results will be examined by Radiologist, Dr. Hussein Al Kindi, and women at risk will be notified accordingly
From 13 till 30 October on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Oman Cancer Association will operate three counters to sell t-shirts and caps for the annual Walkathon event taking place on 1st November. Proceeds of the sale will be used by the foundation to fund awareness and education programmes, as well as community outreach initiatives. Visitors whom are interested to buy t-shirts and caps, can visit the OCA counters located in two different wings on the ground floor of City Centre Muscat and on the ground floor at City Centre Qurum. To lend support to the OCA Walkathon, City Centre Management will be participating in the community awareness event.
“We are calling upon all members of the public to support this very worthy cause, aimed at raising funds and spreading awareness. We invite you to join us in this fight against breast cancer and help us spread the message of early detection," said Watfa Humaid Al Harthy, Senior Mall Manager, City Centre Qurum.
