Following its success in environmental consultancy and the growing demand for services in this domain, AESG today announced the establishment of a dedicated ‘AESG Environmental’ division. The new business arm builds on the company’s success in the field and will now offer over 11 services essential to helping clients acquire local environmental permits as well as funds from international donor bodies.
“Never before has the issue of climate change held more weight on the global stage. The Middle East stands together with the world’s leading economies in its commitment to a low carbon future. Against this backdrop, businesses now have the crucial responsibility of operating in an increasingly environmentally conscientious way,” said Saeed Al Abbar, Director at AESG. “Our team has numerous years of experience in conducting environmental studies for master plan developments, industrial projects and facilities, infrastructure as well as oil and gas facilities. The growing scale of our environmental consultancy operations prompted our decision to set up the formal division.”
As a part of the region’s leading energy and sustainability consultancy, AESG Environmental holds Class A status from the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi and is a registered consultant with the Dubai Municipality Environmental Protection and Studies Section. The division’s studies conform to local and international criteria which include EAD, DM-EPSS, USEPA, ECGD, ASTM E1527-13.
AESG Environmental intends to be a one-stop-shop that delivers all services relating to environmental consultancy in a pragmatic, innovative and cost effective manner. The division will also draw on the strengths of AESG’s Sustainability, Commissioning and Energy Efficiency business units. This multidisciplinary approach to completing projects offers clients access to broader professional skill set, thereby guaranteeing project quality and efficiency. Another major contributor to this high quality of services is the range of expertise of the team members who are qualified in the disciplines of environmental engineering, environmental science, public health and ecology.
While Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) are primarily driven by legislative requirements, they are now also fundamental to securing international financing. AESG Environmental conducts its EIAs in strict accordance with the requirements of global financing bodies such as the World Bank or UK Export Finance (ECGD) requirements. Division lead, Nivine Issa, explains, “AESG has successfully completed ECGD compliant EIAs for two UAE projects, which received such international financing. We are therefore extremely familiar with the process and have a proven track record of producing compliant EIAs to achieve funding approval.”
The initial focus of AESG Environmental is on the oil & gas, real estate and infrastructure verticals. Its services will be offered across the GCC and AESG expects that initial uptake will be driven by businesses in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
