In 1403 AH, a Royal Order was issued approving the Statute of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) after which it launched its work through its competent supervisory, executive and specialist boards and committees. To date, the number of adopted programs exceeded 37. Based in Riyadh, Saudi Commision for Health Specialities was established by Royal Decree No. M/2, dated 6/2/1413 AH. Saudi Commision for Health Specialities is a scientific Commission which has legal personality, and its Headquarter is located in the Diplomatic Quarter, Riyadh, and six branches at Makkah AL Mukarramah area (Jeddah), The Eastern region (Al Khobar and Al Ahsaa), Assir area (Abha), Al Madinah Al Munawarah Area (Al Madinah Al Munawarah) and Al Qasim area (Buraidah). The SCHS has helped to establish modern, state-of-the-art healthcare institutions and has succeeded in attracting a well-qualified, diversified spectrum of personnel. With these recognized and accredited facilities, the Saudi physician can pursue training in all different medical specialties. Cognizant of the importance of an independent Saudi body that can prepare and supervise training programs and assesses trainees, the SCHS is tasked with formulating proper standards and criteria for practicing and developing the health professions. The commission aims at upgrading professional performance, developing skills that enrich scientific literature, and properly apply knowledge in the various fields of health specialties. Some functions include approving and supervising profession health specialist programs; accrediting health institutions that provide training; supervising specialty exams and validating their results; certifying qualified professionals; encouraging health research and publication; holding conferences and symposia for the region's health community; and setting criteria for practicing health professionals. The organization’s mission is to develop healthcare standards through designing and organizing health training programs, ensure the effectiveness of health practitioners’ registration and classification, promote medical research and education, and achieve sustained professional development in the Kingdom through coordination and partnerships with local and international institutions. SCFHS provides a number of electronic services for health practitioners through "Mumaris” system, which are gradually launched. The health practitioner needs first to open a personal e-account in SCFHS portal to use the electronic services and track requests.
