Zayed University students to participate in ‘The Intercultural Project’

From June 13th to July 13th, 2018, ten selected students and alumni of Zayed University’s College of Arts and Creative Enterprises will participate in a special art contest that will be staged at the Dubai showroom of Gargash Motors, the official distributor of Alfa Romeo in the UAE - with the opening event taking place at 9pm on June 13th.

The students will display their creativity over the month and visitors to the exhibition can vote for the favorite artwork. The two students from Dubai and Abu Dhabi who receive the highest number of votes will be named winners of the contest and will then, accompanied by the Project Manager, Dr. Benedetta Paravia and a tutor from Zayed University, travel to Italy to participate in ‘The Intercultural Project’, a successful educational trip happening since 2005.

Throughout their time in Italy, the group - courtesy of Gargash - Alfa Romeo, who are to sponsor the trip - will travel in true Italian style, being driven across the country in the very latest Alfa Romeo vehicles.

“The Gargash Group has always taken great pride in supporting local talent, and as Alfa Romeo is the epitome of Italian luxury and style, it’s the perfect combination with Zayed University to create a springboard for young students from this great institution,” said Simon Ellis, General Manager, Gargash - Alfa Romeo - “We are thrilled to be hosting this art exhibition and look forward to working closely with The Intercultural Project to further benefit Zayed University students in the coming years.”

The Intercultural Project comprises an interesting mix of cultural and educational modules, based on site visits, direct exploration and first-hand observation and discussion with specialists in the field. Taking place in a number of different locations - Rome, Florence, Milan, Arona and Siena - the students will have the opportunity to visit historical and cultural sites and museums.

“The intercultural Project is a special educational program that we have been running since 2005” - said Dr. Benedetta Paravia, Project Manager - “It was devised to bring the European and Arabic cultures closer together, with a special focus on the UAE and Italy - it also promotes intercultural dialogue and the understanding of cultural diversity, ultimately benefitting Emiratisation by motivating and encouraging the students.”

The project has also received the honour of being directly supported by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Founded in Milan, Italy way back in 1910, five key elements have made Alfa Romeo one of the world's most desirable automotive brands - advanced technology, lightness and efficiency, performance and dynamism, distinctive Italian design and a unique spirit. These are the essential ingredients to create an Alfa Romeo and which deliver 'la meccanica delle emozioni' ('the mechanics of emotions' in English). This distinctive line, used worldwide in Italian only, pays homage to the homeland where the legend was born over a century ago.

The exhibition opens at 9pm on June 13th 9pm and runs until July 13th at the Gargash - Alfa Romeo showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road, next to the Gold and Diamond Park.
