In the year 1687, the Mughals annexed the city. In 1724, the Mughal Viceroy Nizam Asaf Jah 1 declared his rule and founded the Asaf Jahi Dynasty which was also known as Nizams. From the years 1769 to 1948, Hyderabad was under Asaf Jahi’s rule.
Before Independence, Hyderabad was the home of British Residency and cantonment till 1947. It was annexed by the Indian Union in 1948 and still continued as the capital of Hyderabad state till 1956. After the State Recognition Act in 1956, the city was declared as the capital of the newly formed Andhra Pradesh.
Till the 19th century, the city was quite famous for its Pearl industry and it was also named “City Of Pearls”. It was also the one and only trade centre in the world for Golconda diamonds.
