The 1st World Conference on Hernia launches in Saudi Arabia

the launch of the first medical conference on "hernia" with the participation of international and regional experts to develop the health service will be held in Riyadh 

The first international medical conference to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on hernia disease will start on January 13 in the intercontinental hotel in the capital Riyadh, in the presence of an elite group of specialized doctors locally and internationally.

The conference, which will last for two days, aims to acquaint more than 300 health personnel in the Kingdom with the latest methods of treating hernia disease, and to develop their surgical skills by transferring experiences of dealing with hernia patients. To develop the level of health service provided to the Saudi patient.

The conference will witness several sessions in which 12 lecturers at the highest level in surgery, along with international speakers from the Middle East, and Vice President of the European Society for Thoracic and Esophageal Surgery, Professor Sebastian Schopmann, Lecturer at the University of Austria.

The conference includes several important axes, foremost which is awareness and education about hernia disease and the latest methods of treatment, exchange of experiences between doctors for the benefit of the Saudi patient, and introducing new technologies in terms of the method of performing operations through binoculars or bots, as well as the existence of advanced networks of various types.

the honorary president of the conference, Vice President of the European Society for Esophageal and Anterior Intestine Surgery, Professor Sebastian Schopmann, said that the Commission for Health Specialties, the Saudi Surgical Society and more than 12 Saudi and international speaking doctors will participate in the conference, and more than 300 health practitioners from all health sectors operating in the Kingdom will attend.

Professor Schopmann added that the conference, which is the first in terms of comprehensiveness for hernia patients ,the quality of topics and the selection of specialists, will allow the exchange of experiences between doctors to reach the best treatment method, which will benefit patients, stressing that there are more than 4,000 hernia patients in the world out of every 100,000 over the age of 45 years.

In a related context, the doctor Ashraf Mughrabi, President of the Saudi Society of Surgery, praised the importance of the upcoming conference in developing the level of health service provided to the patient, noting that there are 1,700 patients with hernias out of every 100,000 people, and the number increases to 4,000 hernia patients out of every 100,000 over the age of 45 years, according to for global stats.

Regarding the most common types of hernias among patients, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Babtain, consultant surgeon at King Abdul Aziz Medical City in Riyadh explained that abdominal hernias are the most common; And it is caused by a history of previous surgeries, weak abdominal muscles, or an inactive lifestyle, which leads to weakness in the abdominal wall and develops into a specific opening or defect through which a hernia occurs and through which fatty tissues or organs protrude in the abdomen, adding that all types of hernias are treated with surgical intervention.

It is worth noting that the conference will be attended by: Prof. Sebastian Schopmann, Dr. Haitham Al-Zamil, Dr. Ahmed Al-Barkan, Prof. Dr. Omar Al-Obeid, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Babtain, Dr. Hussam Al-Omari, Dr. Hussam Uday, Dr. Swailem Al-Mutairi, Dr. Shadi Saleh Al-Bahri, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Naami, Dr. Ashraf Mughrabi, and Dr. Roger Gergi.
