Etihad Etisalat Mobily was honored by Sofrecom, a member of Orange Group, for being the leading telecom operator in Saudi Arabia to act on environment. The award was handed over by Mr. Jacques Moulin CEO Sofrecom and Mr. Abdelkader Dali Managing Director Middle East
to Akil Al Akil, Mobily’s Senior Executive Officer for Regulatory Affairs, during a short ceremony on the sidelines of Mobile World Congress 2016.
Mobily partnered with Sofrecom to optimize the area of existing technical buildings and reduce energy consumption across its Data Centers. Mobily became the first telecom operator in Saudi Arabia to collect data through inventory and present the « As-is » landscape, free white space and Power utilization from the environment during the course of this joint project, which extended to all corners of the country. This was done to save on CAPEX and OPEX by eliminating irrelevant equipment. A team of 13 senior international consultants participated in the project.
Akil Al Akil, Mobily’s Senior Executive Officer for Regulatory Affairs, stated: “we selected Sofrecom to share their international expertise and best practices in Data Center optimization back in 2014; By the end of phase 1, we learned we had managed to reduce 270 core network cabinets, saving 648 kW of electrical power and 2209 KBTU of cooling power. The process of optimization doesn’t just have a net positive impact on the environment; it also provides enormous CAPEX / OPEX savings.”
Al Akil added: “this came as a part of Facility and Administration department initiatives, which supports Mobily’s strategy in improving the operational efficiency. Indeed, operational efficiency is a key pillar in our new strategy since we rely on it for our operations.”
Mr. Abdelkader Dali, MD Middle East, said: “Sofrecom experts worked on-site alongside Mobily engineers to come up the necessary results to maintain and consolidate the operator's operational position as Saudi Arabia’s leading telecom provider.”
In line with Mobily’s strategy of working with sustainable solutions, Sofrecom’s highly qualified consultants provided support throughout the entire project lifecycle, including a “floor map” matrix capable of easily locating any equipment in the Data Centers. The first analysis was based on statistics per domain, per usage of equipment, per vertical and horizontal occupation, and per type of equipment and was presented in six domains identified as IT, Core network & VAS, Transmission, Data solutions (IP/PLS), RAN.
