Tuesday marks a special day for Jeddah’s “snapchatters” as the city will be going live on Snapchat’s “story” feature.
The popular application will be broadcasting selected photos and videos of the second most populous city in the Kingdom for 24 hours, and to more than 100 million daily users.
After the success of the “Riyadh Life” story, Jeddawis are more than eager to share popular sites of their beloved city with the world. The Jeddah flagpole and fountain appear to be the key points of attention, both currently holding world records for being the tallest of their kind.
Social media has been flooded with excited users just hours after the announcement was made.
Anas Linjawi(@AnasLinjawii) tweeted: “Get ready to see everyone you know tomorrow. JeddahLive.”
Farah, who tweets via @FarahAlSweel, wrote: “Great news! Saudi Arabia’s most historic and cultural city finally gets some face time on Snapchat.”
While many joyous citizens await the city’s global coverage, some want to use the opportunity to eliminate misunderstandings about the Kingdom’s culture.
Mohammed (@qamar20066) said: “Hey guys, show the people the right picture about Jeddah, like our culture, food, music, tradition.”
Waleed (@WaleedAAlSalhi) said: “Dear Snapchat, Could you please show the good and beautiful side of Saudi Arabia?”
Regardless of the sentiments, the topic has produced such an intense buzz that the tag #jeddah_live has been trending worldwide on Twitter and Instagram.
