The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) will be playing a central role at this year’s World Travel Market (WTM) 2016, one of the foremost events in the travel industry, taking place in London from November 7-9.
Participating under the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority’s pavilion, Shurooq will showcase its portfolio of unique tourist projects and leisure destinations with the spotlight on the Mleiha Archaeological and Ecotourism Project. Tour operators and travel agents from across the globe will be introduced to the project's unique components, with the aim of attracting more international tourists and visitors, specifically Europe, to Mleiha, a must–see destination.
Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Chief Operating Officer of Shurooq, said: “This trade fair is a perfect platform for travel and tourism experts to promote the very best attractions in their own countries, and that is exactly what we aim to do. It is vital that we all discuss the latest developments on the global travel sector, and explore strategic partnerships and prospects for future collaboration. For Mleiha, this is a prime opportunity for us to present our work and share our experience."
He added, "During this exhibition, we will also show Sharjah as an ideal family destination. Throughout the ages, the emirate has always placed an enormous emphasis on the family as a way of life and we can now demonstrate that to our visitors through the latest tourist and leisure projects.
“We will also highlight the new innovative means and methods that Shurooq has developed to offer a unique experience for visitors by providing high quality services and world-class facilities that meet their needs and exceed their expectations."
The Shurooq COO went on to say: "The Mleiha project is Shurooq's newest and most prominent project and the first of its kind in the region to combine the concepts of sustainability, leisure and history. It is understandably one of the top attractions in the emirate, where it houses a wide number of facilities, making it a destination of choice for lovers of nature and desert adventures. The project is an integral part of the emirate's authentic history, and a key pillar of the UAE's rich civilization and culture."
Mleiha offers exploratory sporting activities and adrenaline adventures, including dune buggies, quad biking activities, tours, guided walks, horse riding, walking and cycling trips among many others to suit all age groups. There are also opportunities for exciting excursion packages, where visitors can enjoy unique desert experiences and breathtaking activities such as skydiving.
Al Qaseer concluded by saying: "We look forward to an effective participation in WTM 2016 in London to highlight the emirate's tourist status through our portfolio of landmark projects, and we will definitely offer Sharjah's visitors and tourists an unforgettable experience."
The 37th edition of the World Travel Market will bring together 50,000 exhibitors from across the globe to promote tourist destinations and services. The volume of its annual business deals is expected to reach more than GBP 2.5 billion.
