Saudi Arabia Celebrates its 88th National Day with major events organized by the General Entertainment Authority across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

On the occasion of the 88th Saudi National Day, The General Entertainment Authority (GEA) presented major events to celebrate on the 23rd of September at various cities across the Kingdom.

This year’s events have been carefully selected by GEA who was keen to present world class events fully customised to comply with the Saudi cultural values and traditions. Accordingly, GEA has collaborated with more than 17 local and international specialised companies to deliver a diversified agenda of events for the citizen and residents of Saudi Arabia to celebrate the National Day.

The breath-taking fireworks show, accompanied by live national music composed particularly for this event under the supervision of HRH Prince Badr Bin Abdul Mohsen, was launched in more than 20 main cities from 58 platforms across the Kingdom that lasted for 15 consecutive minutes, in addition to 55 secondary shows that lasted for 14 minutes, launching more than 990,000 thousand fireworks across the Kingdom. An event expected to break Guinness World Records, that was created by the Philippines during the New Year celebrations in 2016, when 810,000 fireworks were displayed.

A huge Saudi flag measuring 400 metres in length and 350 metres was painted in the skies of Riyadh and Jeddah using 300 drone aircrafts with fireworks illuminating the background in green. The event achieved the Guinness World Record, for the largest pyrotechnic image commemorating the 88th National Day in Riyadh.

A dazzling world-class 3D visuals and architectural lighting was portrayed at the King Abdullah Financial District featured by the legendary French musician Jean-Michel Jarre, presenting the first of its kind ‘Green Concert’ event in Riyadh. The world-premiering event was lit by solar energy harvested from solar panels in a representation of the Kingdom’s environmental conservation aspirations.

The King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh witnessed a spectacular performance by the world-famous Cirque du Soleil. The show has been specially designed for this occasion and has attracted thousands of spectators, making it one of Cirque du Soleil’s largest performances around the world. More than 80 artists from 26 nationalities presented the story of the Kingdom portraying the past, present and future of the Kingdom. The performance featured aerial silks, German and electric wheels, one-wheel performances, and acrobatics on walls, In addition to hover board flights and a spectacular fireworks display.

All those events beautifully simulated the Kingdom’s values, historic journey, and future aspirations.
