Pushing the Green Agenda in the Region Private sector leads the Region’s Green Agenda

Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE), established under the guidance of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), and global energy player ENGIE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed by Sebastien Arbola, CEO of ENGIE Middle East, South & Central Asia and Turkey, and Ivano Iannelli, CEO of Dubai Carbon.

 

The partnership will permit to explore opportunities to implement renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions in Dubai and the region. It will also enable joint projects in the field of sustainability, environment, climate change and social responsibility. DCCE and ENGIE will work together on the development of Green Certificates and a Carbon Market, including the DCCE’s project on International Renewable Energy Certificates (IRECs). DCCE will facilitate IRECs, a market based instrument that is issued when one megawatt hour (MWh) of electricity is generated and delivered to the electricity grid from a renewable energy source.

Together as a team, we aim at promoting greater environmental efficiency and improved economic performance on carbon reductions,” said Sebastien Arbola, CEO of ENGIE Middle East, South & Central Asia and Turkey.

 

Together, DCCE and ENGIE will enableaccess to a range of tried and tested technologies in energy performance management, industrial maintenance,data management, green mobility, whilst offering the chance to tap into ENGIE’s internationalexpertise and experience. They will also jointly organise Innovation Platforms and periodic stakeholder roundtables, topromote sustainability and green economy solutions, as well as innovative strategies for resource efficiency and carbon emission reductions &offsetting.

 

“The core objective of the partnership is to act as a catalyst to share knowledge, introduce leading solutions and build a better sustainable future for Dubai and the UAE. We look forward to joining efforts to build a more sustainable future and support the government of Dubai in the transformation towards a green economy and smart city,” said Ivano Iannelli.

 

With an ultimate goal to support sustainable development for the present and future generations in the UAE, the partnership between Dubai Carbon and ENGIE aligns with the government’s all-encompassing renewable energy programmes and drives the country closer to its goals of UAE Vision 2021.
