Over 1400 workers in UAE benefit from Aster Volunteers Mega Medical Camp marking World Health Day

Aster Volunteers in partnership with Model Service Society organised a ‘Mega Medical & Wellness Camp’ at the Dubai Investment Real Estate Labour Camp in Jebel Ali for more than 1400 low income workers. Eisa Alzarooni, representative of Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation and Sri Vipul, Consul General of India, joined Dr Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman & Managing Director and Dr Zeba Moopen, Director of Special Projects of Aster DM Healthcare for the inauguration of the camp, expressed their support and encouraged participation.

The beneficiaries consisted of a mix of nationalities from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.  The aim of the ‘Mega Medical & Wellness Camp’ was to identify and meet the health and wellness requirements of low income workers who are often not able to access basic healthcare facilities, while struggling to make ends meet and provide for their families back home. In addition to free medical check-ups, the day was dedicated to the overall happiness and well-being of the participants. They had the opportunity to participate in a number of entertainment activities organised by Aster Volunteers and partners. In the true spirit of the Year of Zayed the event echoed the late leader’s utmost respect for people regardless of nationality, gender, status or religion and his recognition of the role of expatriates in building the UAE.

The Aster Volunteers initiative brought together more than 20 doctors and 25 paramedics from Aster Hospital Mankhool, Aster and Access Clinics, Aster Pharmacy and Medcare Hospitals. The beneficiaries at the camp were screened by specialists from General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Dental, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Pulmonology and Gastroenterology. Post the screening, individuals diagnosed with specific health conditions were recommended appropriate treatment path. During the camp, Aster optics gave out free spectacles based on patient needs, while Aster pharmacy and Malabar Gold jointly supplied medicines for the workers. All participants were provided with food and refreshments courtesy partners including Al Ain Dairy, Masafi and Malabar Gold.

This is one of the many initiatives as part of the Aster Volunteers program, launched in 2017 to mark Aster’s three decades of compassionate care.

Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman & Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare said, “We take it as our responsibility to give back to the communities we serve, and help those in need. On World Health Day we strive to make healthcare accessible to those who are in real need but do not have the means. Aster Volunteer initiatives such as today’s Mega Health & Wellness Camp bring us closer to the people who need our help the most. Dr. Zeba Moopen, Director of Special Projects at Aster DM Healthcare has been leading the development of this initiative and will continue to drive it forward to make a positive difference in the lives of more and more people. We deeply appreciate the support and cooperation from the Indian Consulate and our partners in bringing today’s camp to life.”

To add to the happiness quotient, the workers at the camp could register for a lucky draw to win exciting and useful prizes. In addition, the volunteers lit up the occasion with live musical performances for everyone present at the event.
