Dilapidated buildings in the south and north of Jeddah in an area of 500,000 square meters are set for demolition because they pose a threat to people’s lives.
The municipality has served notices to the owners and residents of these buildings to evacuate the premises, an official committee has been quoted as saying by the local media.
The committee, comprising representatives from the Jeddah municipality, Civil Defense, police and the Saudi Electricity Company, said demolition will be undertaken in two phases.
The police and security personnel confirmed that the buildings will not be removed unless all the people inside are safely evacuated.
