NAMA organizes honoring ceremony for its Life Skills “Sekak” teacher-empowerment project participants

Bringing its 5-day intensive training program to fruition, Nama Center, a member of Qatar Social Work Foundation, organized yesterday an honoring Ceremony for the teachers who participated in its “Sekak” project, at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC). 

The event was held in the presence of the Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Mrs. Fawzia Abdulaziz Al Khater, the CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work Ms. Amaal bint Abdullatif Al Mannai, and a number of school principals.

The convocation started with an introductory segment about NAMA center and the inauguration of its youth capacity-building programs, following which a coronation ceremony was held to honor the 30 teachers who have successfully completed the “Sekak” project, which is centered on Life Skills & Style Enhancement.

Having concluded the training program, the newly-graduated teachers, who come from various schools across the country, are now empowered with the knowledge and skills necessary to better handle and train high school students as well as develop their basic cognitive and life skills.

Commenting on the project’s conclusion, Ms. Mariam bint Abdullatif Al Mannai – Director of the Community Services Department, and the Director in charge of running NAMA’s affairs, said:

“It is no secret that youth capacity-building is at the core of NAMA’s vision, which aims to create a platform that is conductive to investing in their creative abilities and harnessing their potential as active partners in civil work, community development, and the renaissance of our nation. Accomplishing such an important mission, however, requires a crucial preceding step; training the trainers who will be mentoring and teaching those young people to innovate, take action and lead the way.”

She added: “This is precisely why our “Sekak” project is vital to the realization of NAMA’s objectives, and why our teachers’ graduation ceremony marks a significant step in that direction. We are incredibly proud of all the teachers who participated, committed themselves and successfully concluded their “Sekak” multi-dimensional training program, and we entrust them with the important mission of empowering our country’s youth with the life skills and knowledge they need to create a better tomorrow for themselves and their communities.”

The capacity-building project, kicked off on the 20th of November 2016 at Nama Center. Throughout its 5 days of multi-faceted training sessions, “Sekak” project worked on boosting the training skills of trainers (Training the Trainers), and their capacity to effectively convey life skills concepts and ideas through short and effective presentations.

The project focused on helping teachers instill into high school students, the right set of personal, psychological and communication skills that will assist them in making informed decisions, communicating effectively, as well as developing their coping and self-management skills, thereby leading them to live a healthy and productive life.

The “Sekak” project graduates are set to start implementing the program in the soon future, as part of NAMA’s efforts to develop the skills and talents of Qatar’s younger generation – represented by high school students in this context – and empowering them to become effective contributors in the achievement of social and economic prosperity, as well as the realization of the country’s National Vision for the year 2030.
