Saudi Arabia - May 2017 - Nahdi Medical presented its pioneering experiment in creating and spreading health awareness among diabetics in the Kingdom during its participation in the 6th conference of Endocrine and Diabetes Centers and Units. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Health under the theme “Type 1 Diabetes can’t be prevented but can be controlled” with participating experts from USA, Canada, UK and Denmark, in addition to some local speakers.
During the event that was held under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Health for Therapeutic Services Dr. Tareef Alaama Dr. Sarah Anwar Turkistani, Senior Health and Community Services Manager at Nahdi Medical Company spoke about the importance of using social media in spreading awareness of diabetes. She pointed out the initiatives launched by Nahdi in this regard and the role it played in launching the biggest interactive circle to confront diabetes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the theme “I challenge diabetes”. She also explained the vital role played by the social media in connecting diabetics, making interaction and exchange of correct health information easier and ways to contain the disease.
Dr. Turkistani indicated that this leading step helped raise the level of awareness for diabetics through communicating and interacting socially via social media in addition to highlighting the role of Nahdi Group as a socially responsible leading company.
Turkistani emphasized the importance of enhancing communication between employees working at diabetes centers and units to exchange their knowledge. She explained that since its launch, the convention has improved the efficiency of employees working at diabetes centers and has helped develop their abilities for the benefit of patients. She indicated that diabetes centers and units play a big role in controlling and managing diabetes and helping hospital management to spread this awareness among health service providers in their institutions throughout the Kingdom
Nahdi Medical’s initiative “I challenge Diabetes” aims at prevention and health awareness and highlighting the importance of balanced diet, exercise, adopting healthy lifestyle, improving the quality of care and continuous education to diabetics, considering that diabetes increases the financial burdens on patients’ lives and their families. The aim of this initiative is to involve diabetics by simplifying medical information and exchanging through an interactive process via social media. This provides them an opportunity to understand their conditions and help them deal with it and avoid serious consequences.
The conference also discussed the latest findings in diabetes and treatment for all ages. It also included doctors’ technical meetings, specialized training workshops, workshop for nutritionists and diabetes educators on the latest in treatment like insulin pump, and a workshop for diabetic foot specialists. An exhibition was also associated with the conference, highlighting the activities and initiatives of Endocrine and Diabetes centers and units in the regions.
