Montblanc and Samsung exalt technology by handcraft with a Montblanc Tattoo Cover Limited Edition

Montblanc and Samsung collaboration: Redefining the boundaries of the Mobile experience

This new collection is the latest making of the successful Samsung and Montblanc’s partnership initiated a year ago, when the two brands introduced “fine writing into the digital world” through the unveiling of the luxury Maison´s first Screenwriter collections compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note’s technology. The digitalization of handwriting was completed by a new generation of smart leather covers specifically designed for Samsung smartphone creations.

The collaboration between the leader of mobile technology and the master of the art of fine writing was motivated by a mutual willingness to pioneer new mobile luxury experience frontiers through the fusion of Samsung cutting edge technology and Montblanc´s unique know how in leather and fine writing.

Tattoo art, as a blend of modernism and tradition mirroring at best the Samsung and Montblanc partnership

To celebrate Samsung’s latest creations, Montblanc released a limited edition of 100 hard-shell  covers featuring handmade tattoos. Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, IT& Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics remarked; “Samsung has a long history of designer partnership and these dynamic collaborations allow consumers to express their personal style through the seamless combination of the designer brand’s heritage with the latest technology. Samsung is pleased to bring this special partnership inspired by Montblanc’s traditional artistic heritage and sophisticated know-hows of leather and fine writing.”

Originally used in ancient times as amulets or talismans, tattoos have become the ultimate form of artistic self-expression among modern societies. Although tattoo artworks originated millennia ago, they have lost neither appeal nor relevance through the years, and resonate with a perfect blend of modernism and tradition in the present-day. In this sense they perfectly mirror the collaboration between Montblanc and Samsung, being a combination between century old savoir faire and cutting edge technology.

Montblanc ink as a link between Montblanc heritage in writing and tattoo artistry

For the Maison Montblanc, being intensively active in the patronage of art and culture, underlining tattoo savoir faire was an opportunity to invite the world to discover the beauty of tattoo craftsmanship. “Montblanc´ s origins lie in writing with ink on paper, tattoo is about writing with ink on skin. Fusing these two gestures using Montblanc’s manufacture leather competence as a canvas was a natural step for the Maison to create this collection.” said Zaim Kamal, Montblanc Creative Director.

Inspired by the image of a hot air balloon, the tattoo design pays tribute to the pioneering spirit of Montblanc’s founders who, more than a century ago, travelled across oceans and continents to explore new writing technics and present Montblanc writing instruments to the world.

Made from carefully selected artisanal  tanned leather, cut and crafted by Montblanc leather artisans in Italy, every single piece has been individually hand-tattooed by London based tattoo artist Mo Coppoletta, using genuine Montblanc ink.

Tattooing is a difficult art to master, translating it into leather requires even more skills due to the nature of the tan itself. Mastering the technique of tattooing on leather requires years of patience and dedication in order to achieve precise standard of execution. Each cover requires up to two hours of tattoo work, to be completed. The leather easily stains, cuts, bruises, therefore every stroke of the tattoo machine needs to be decisive yet delicate at the same time. The use of Montblanc Ink makes the quality of the work even more spectacular, as the precious liquid is rarely used to perform tattoo artistry due to the value of every drop.

A complete range of new covers to dress the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note5 with style Montblanc Tattoo covers will exclusively be available online on selected Samsung channels and on Montblanc.com from September 2015.
