MAWANI says container handling reaches 686,700 TEUs in August

Saudi ports reported a 5.01% drop in cargo throughput tonnage to 685,650 tons in August, compared to 721,820 tons in the same period a year ago.

 

 

 

In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that outbound containers rose 15.24% to 261,290 in August, from 226,740 in the prior-year period. The number of inbound containers also increased 18.76% to 258,960 last month, compared to 218,050 in August 2023.

 

 

 

The general cargo reached 711,110 tons in August, while dry and liquid bulk cargo reached 4.83 million and 17.53 million tons, respectively. Ports received 422,450 livestock heads for the same month, down 24.27% compared to 557,850 in the same month of 2023.

 

 

 

Handled tonnages grew 26.57% year-on-year (YoY) to 30.53 million TEUs, while transshipment containers were down 40.29% YoY to 165,400 during the same month, from 277,030 TEUs in August 2023.

 

 

 

The maritime traffic saw a decline of 4.18% YoY to 986 ships in August. Meanwhile, the number of passengers fell 32.51% to 50,350 last month, compared to 74,590 last year. The number of cars increased by 24.51% YoY to 103,420 for the same month.
