Mawani lays cornerstone for integrated logistics zone in Dammam at over SAR 150M

Jeddah – The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) and MEDLOG laid the cornerstone for the integrated logistics zone at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam at a total investment value of over SAR 150 million.

The new zone is distinguished by its location, which gives it a great competitive advantage, near Jubail Industrial City. It is also centered between a number of cities in the Eastern Region, which boosts its logistical operations, enables it to provide high-quality, comprehensive and integrated logistical services, and further strengthens its ability to facilitate transport operations between the Eastern and Central regions, and all regions of the Kingdom, in addition to meeting the requirements of the local market, in terms of transporting and handling of cargo, with high operational capabilities, said the authority.

It added that the zone capacity reaches 300,000 containers annually, and aims to facilitate the growth of the shipping network and global logistics services, as well as raise the quality and efficiency of services provided to national and international customers across the Kingdom.

Laying the foundation stone of the new logistics zone aligns with the authority’s goal to develop a sustainable and prosperous maritime sector. It also contributes to enabling the national economic and social aspirations, and achieves the authority's strategic indicators by increasing the number of logistic zones to 30, including re-export, said MAWANI's Chairman Omar Hariri.

He further noted that this step will also contribute to the goals outlined in Saudi Arabia’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to turn the Kingdom into a global logistics hub.

MAWANI signed on Dec. 22, a contract to establish a 100,000-square-meter (sqm) integrated logistics zone at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam with MEDLOG, according to data available to Argaam.
