Makkah Millennium Hotel & Towers Marks Earth Hour 2019

Makkah Millennium Hotel & Towers, the unique hospitality destination located by the Holy Haram Piazza in front of King Fahd gate, joined millions around the world on 30 March 2019 to support the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Earth Hour, an international initiative that draws attention to the environmental threats confronting the future generation and urges individuals and organizations to take actions toward Earth protection and sustainable future.

Over 3,000 guests, residents, pilgrims and employees in Makkah Millennium Hotel & Towers participated in this worldwide movement by switching off non-essential lights and appliances including external signage, interior lobby and reception lights. The hotel also hosted a candlelit dinner with low carbs menu and organic cocktails for the participants who gathered in the lobby during Earth Hour.

Mr. Saad Khayat, General Manager of Makkah Millennium Hotel & Towers, stated, “Our participation comes with strong believe and support to this global initiative. We are in Makkah Millennium Hotels & Towers committed to protecting the environment for future generations by saving energy and reducing our carbon footprint. We maintain ongoing efforts to adopt sustainable and innovative solutions for our operations considering that pilgrims from all parts of the world visiting Makkah can take part and spread the message to create a long lasting and meaningful impact.”

Minutes before the hour, guests and employees in Makkah Millennium Hotel & Towers gathered around the lobby lounge, where Mr.Khayat turned off the symbolic switch at 8:30 pm, which signaled the start of the 60-minute energy conservation. Non-essential lights and appliances were switched off for an hour in various areas of the hotel including common areas, the lobby and external signage as well as guest rooms.

KSA has been celebrating Earth Hour since 2010, which was founded by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), and it is the single largest symbolic mass-participation event in the world, inspiring a global community of millions of people across 162 countries and territories to switch off lights.
