MAKE THE DAYS COUNT WITH KHALIDYA PALACE RAYHAAN BY ROTANA

Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana in honour of the International Childhood Cancer Dayvisited the patients of Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), to raise awareness aboutchildren suffering from this disease as well as to show its ongoing commitment to the well-being and health.

The visit was marked by a distribution of gifts bringing smiles to children's faces. Khalidiya Palace Ryahaan by Rotana’s colleagues met with representatives from Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), and families of the children and discussed the health progress, needs, and challenges facing the children. The team took a tour in the hospital to check on the children’s progress and had the opportunity to spend their time in support of the bravely battling this disease as a cancer diagnosis turns the lives of the entire family upside down.

“It was magnificent to see all our colleagues interact with the children. Despite the circumstances all the participants were motivated and proud to be able to support noble cause. The objective of this visit was to put a spotlight on the types of cancer that largely affect children, survivorship issues, and – importantly – to help raise awareness for research and family support. We thank the hospital for giving us the opportunity to do this rewarding activity.” said Eleni Tsolakou, General Manager at Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana.

International Childhood Cancer Day is a global collaborative campaign to raise awareness about childhood cancer, and to express support for children and adolescents with cancer, the survivors and their families. The day promotes increased appreciation and deeper understanding of issues and challenges relevant to childhood cancer and impacting on children/adolescents with cancer, the survivors, their families and the society as a whole. It also spotlights the need for more equitable and better access to treatment and care for all children with cancer, everywhere.

“Improved awareness and outcomes are not delivered by healthcare providers alone. Communities and the public play a critical role helping those in need”, said Dr.Aref Al Shehhi, Acting CEO at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City. “We thank Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana for their great support”.

Every child with cancer deserves the best possible medical and psychosocial care and with timely and accurate diagnosis, availability and access to proper treatment and care as well as affordable, good quality essential medicines childhood cancer deaths are avoidable. By talking, playing with the children and learning about their struggles all participants showed the importance of giving and care.
