Dubai’s leading entities are joining forces to stage an event in China highlighting how the city is a global gateway offering the world’s largest exporter excellent opportunities for economic development and cultural exchange.
Taking place from 27-29 October 2016, Dubai Week in China: Shanghai – a Falcon and Associates initiative supported by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce (SMCC) – will celebrate the thriving bilateral relationship and create connections for future mutual growth.
Through the unified voice of Strategic Partner Expo 2020 Dubai and Official Partners – Dubai Chamber, DIFC, DMCC, DTCM, Jafza and Jumeirah - the event aims to deepen the knowledge and understanding of the city among government officials, business and thought leaders, entrepreneurs and investors.
Building on the success of the 2015 Dubai Week in China: Beijing – held in partnership with Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) – the Dubai delegation has grown. It will feature the UAE Ministry of Economy and Supporting Partners Dubai Duty Free, DIFC Courts, Emirates and KHDA, while Dubai FDI, Dubai Sports Council, Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management and Emirates Aviation University will also be participating in the event.
“With a strong foundation of mutual respect and trust, strengthened by the common goals of our Look East focus and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the bilateral relationship continues to grow and this event presents a tremendous opportunity to strengthen further these ties,” said Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Director General Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau and Honorary President of Falcon and Associates.
“In addition to being home to a thriving Chinese community and welcoming increasing numbers of Chinese visitors every year, the UAE is a leading partner in trade and finance, and connects China with opportunities in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and beyond. As the UAE prepares to host Expo 2020 Dubai, we also look forward to learning more from Shanghai’s success in 2010.”
Staged across The Langham Hotel and The House in the bustling Xintiandi district, the event will comprise discussions spanning business, education, innovation, Expo 2020 Dubai and sport.
“Our two great cities share a similar story of fast-paced development with a clear vision for the future,” said Mdm Shang Yuying, Chairwoman, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce. “Dubai and Shanghai have been twin cities since 2000 and, with our ‘four centres’ of development - economics, finance, shipping and trade - aligning with a number of Dubai’s pillars of economic strength, there is great potential at this event to explore ways for the relationship to prosper further.”
Hongbin Cong, Managing Director, Invest Dubai, Falcon and Associates, says the event will highlight how Dubai can contribute to the Belt and Road Initiative. “Strategically located at the crossroads of East and West - with a network of air, sea and road links which enable seamless connectivity with the world - Dubai is a global gateway for China in trade, travel, finance and investment,” said Mr Cong. “World-class infrastructure - combined with ease of doing business, a commitment to innovation, attractive free zone conditions and strong and effective governance - makes Dubai a perfect partner for Shanghai.”
