Kingdom Participates in 14th Meeting of UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management

Represented by the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA), the Kingdom participated in the 14th meeting of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management. GEOSA President Dr. Eng. Mohammed bin Yahya Al Sayel, who is also the Chairman of the Arab Committee of United Nations Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management, led the Kingdom's delegation to the meeting, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City from August 5 to 7.

 


In his speech, Al Sayel stated, "The Kingdom appreciates the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management's welcome of the Kingdom hosting the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Center (THE ECOSYSTEM) in Riyadh. The Kingdom also welcomes the report that includes enhancing arrangements for global geospatial information management."

 


He emphasized that the Kingdom is working on completing all necessary preparations to host THE ECOSYSTEM in Riyadh. This center aims to explore aspects of the geospatial information ecosystem in consultation with the United Nations Committee of Experts on Geospatial Information Management, its subsidiary teams, member states, and centers of the Committee.

 


The meeting in New York discussed several agenda items, including enhancing global arrangements for geospatial information management, supporting the future geospatial information environment, monitoring contributions of regional committees and thematic networks to the global geospatial information plan, the integrated geospatial information framework, the global geodetic reference framework, and the use of geospatial information to achieve sustainable development goals, among others.
