Jeddah prepares for summer influx of tourists

Saudi citizens consider Jeddah as still the most favorite place during holidays.
At least 20 million tourists visit different cities annually, both from outside and inside the country, according to a study.
While the locals coming to the Western Province constitute 59 percent, those coming from abroad are 55 percent, approximately.
Outsiders may look up at Saudis of a uniform look and accent, the fact is Saudi Arabia is marked by its geographical diversities, with every region being different from each other.
Jeddah for instance has its special dress, music, accent and public places such as the Corniche and malls. This is besides its own parks, traditions and various cultures.
A local, Ahmad Tashkandi, says visitors come from all over the Kingdom even from neighboring cities like Madinah and Taif and that it was not difficult to know which cities and provinces Saudis are from because of their dress and accents. He said the holiday season was a chance for different Saudis to get to know each other and understand different values and customs.
Kholoud Basyouni, a beauty center owner, said the holidays were best for businesss. “We not only get new customers but new ideas from groups all over then Kingdom and we make new friends,” she said.
Abu Abdul Aziz Al-Ammar agrees, saying its the wide variety of people that makes Jeddah different and that many visitors come to visit friends and relatives.
Despite the noticeable differences, unity and brotherly spirit dominate the Kingdom even if the dress and accent are different. “We are a population of 30 million and we are a variety of cultures but we on rely on Islam and its tolerance,” Abu Abdul Aziz was quoted as saying in a local publication.
