HUAWEI Mate 10 Series can now recognize you!

Facial recognition technology is on the rise globally, thus becoming a part of our everyday life. Today, we can shop with our face, pay for things using a selfie, get tagged automatically on social media, be greeted at hotels upon arrival, detect genetic disorders from patient photos, find missing persons, and even take attendance in schools.

The truth is that facial recognition technology is popping up everywhere even into our smartphones as by recognizing faces, smartphones will immediately unlock without having to use passwords anymore.

Looking to constantly innovate and provide consumers with top-notch experiences, Huawei has already used facial recognition technology in some smartphones, and is introducing today Facial recognition into the HUAWEI Mate 10 Series, therefore bringing more features and functionality to users’ experience.

Face Unlock brings more convenience to users

The Huawei Face Unlock option is a safe and convenient way to interact with the Mate 10 Series, providing one more option besides fingerprint to unlock the device. Using advanced facial recognition software, the option has enhanced security settings, recording data points on your face to prevent photos and videos of your face being used to unlock the phone.

How to set up Face Unlock?

Users can set up Face Unlock by going to the “Security & Privacy” submenu in Settings. When accessing the feature for the first time, they will have to have enroll their face by taking a headshot. After creating a facial profile, users have two options to use Face Unlock: “Direct Unlock” and “Slide to Unlock”.

The “Direct Unlock” unlocks the device automatically when the screen is turned on and the user’s face is recognized; the “Slide to Unlock” requires users to perform a swipe gesture to unlock the device after their face is recognized. Direct Unlock works best when the option to wake up the device on pick up is also enabled, as it allows users to unlock their device with minimal effort (device behavior on pick up can be adjusted from a separate Settings submenu, accessible from a shortcut in the Face Unlock submenu).

On the other hand, Slide to Unlock synergizes with “Smart Lock Screen Notifications”, which, when enabled, blocks notifications from being viewed unless the device is first unlocked. Having both options available gives users the freedom to choose the option that best fits their preferences and usage habits.

Face Unlock is the latest feature to be added to the HUAWEI Mate 10 Series. Featuring the world’s first Kirin AI processor, HUAWEI FullView, as well as a dual Leica camera powered by AI, the HUAWEI Mate 10 Series were highly acclaimed globally. The devices also pack a powerful 4000 mAh battery with AI-powered Battery Management, and support TÜV Fast-Charge Safety Certified HUAWEI SuperCharge technology.
