Huawei enriches digital life experiences in collaboration with local incubators and accelerators

Workshops with AstroLabs and The GrEEK Campus that equipped app developers with key resources and skills

Huawei, a leading tech giant, reinforces its commitment to excellence and innovation through workshops, competitions, and mentorship programmes in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. In collaboration with AstroLabs and The GrEEK Campus, Huawei organised three in-person interactive sessions in Riyadh, Cairo, and Dubai for mobile application developers to learn about the Apps UP 2022 registration process, the HMS Ecosystem, and it’s open capabilities.

In close alignment with the Huawei Global App Innovation Contest (Apps UP) 2022, the sessions equipped mobile application developers with skills and expertise to integrate Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) kits and benefit from an ecosystem with over 60 open capabilities. The partnership is designed to familiarise developers with techniques to multiply their app’s impact and reach over 730 million users globally through participating in the 2022 edition of Apps UP. Through this series, Huawei aims to endow developers in the region with the necessary resources, support, and tools required to enrich digital life experiences and mentor app developers’ talent.

In addition to Apps UP, Huawei continuously nurtures communities as part of the brand’s core identity. Huawei launched HUAWEI Women Developers (HWD), a global program that aims to empower female developers and provide them with a platform to learn, support, and exchange resources. Huawei is also running the HUAWEI Student Developers (HSD) global program that offers students passionate about app development training courses and activities.

Lu Geng, Vice President of the Middle East and Africa, Huawei Global Partnerships & Eco-Development, Huawei Consumer Business Group, said: “As Huawei further strengthens our partnership with AstroLabs and The GrEEK Campus, the leading accelerators, entrepreneurship hubs, and technology ecosystem builders in the region, we will continue to foster the talents of local developers. The sessions provided attendees with direct access to HMS’ experts, where they were trained to code and integrate their apps into the HMS ecosystem and furthermore, enabled them to join the global Huawei Developer Community. We always look for creative methods to entertain the app development ecosystem, and Apps UP is a great initiative that provides developers with the recognition and support required.”

Developers from all levels looking to acquire new skills can boost their chances of winning the contest through six additional training sessions on multiple HMS Core Kits on Huawei Developer Group MEAI and  HUAWEI Innovation Contest (Apps UP 2022) - YouTube. The free-to-attend workshops’ primary focus is to better facilitate developers of all levels with Apps UP registration and submission and help them integrate HMS core kits.

Apps UP 2022 allows individual participants and groups of three members to enter multiple categories and submit up to 5 apps. The contest is held under the theme ‘Together we Innovate’ and provides developers in MEA with the opportunity to win cash prizes from a pool of US$230,000. Developers can submit their entries until 18:00 UTC+8, 9th October 2022.
