Global Village becomes world’s first entertainment destination to receive prestigious British Safety Council Sword of Honour

Global Village has been recognised in excellence for health and safety management by the British Safety Council, which has awarded the world’s leading multicultural festival park its highly regarded ‘Sword of Honour’ achievement.

The region’s first family destination for culture, shopping and entertainment, Global Village established a blueprint for success earlier in 2019, when it became the world’s first entertainment destination to be awarded five stars in the British Safety Council’s Five-Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit (OHS FSA).

In order to compete for the Sword of Honour, Global Village had to achieve the maximum five stars in the British Safety Council’s health and safety audit scheme within the period of August 2018 to July 2019. Global Village also had to demonstrate to an independent adjudication panel of experts that it had a proven record of accomplishment and had displayed a culture of best practice for excellence in health and safety throughout the business – from the workplace to the boardroom.

Global Village successfully completed a submission for the Sword of Honour award, which highlighted evident links to the FSA report findings and displayed a proactive commitment to excellence in health and safety.

Bader Anwahi, CEO of Global Village, said: “A Global Village philosophy is our commitment to ensuring world-class health and safety procedures are in place in every aspect of operations. This accolade is testament to Global Village’s exemplary management of health and safety risks, and we are proud to be pioneers in this sector as the first entertainment destination to attain the Sword of Honour. We will continue to monitor our health and safety pillars in order to ensure we are delivering safe and healthy environments which support our exceptional festival park experience for millions of guests.”

Global Village was one of 84 organisations worldwide that achieved a Sword of Honour. The 2019 awards mark the 40th consecutive year in which the British Safety Council has awarded the Sword of Honour for excellence in health and safety management.

Lawrence Waterman, Chairman of the British Safety Council, said: “On behalf of the board of trustees and staff of the British Safety Council, I would like to congratulate Global Village on achieving the very highest standards of health, safety and environmental management.  Excellence at this level is very hard won. We are proud to have supported you in your achievements, and I am delighted that you have chosen to celebrate it with us today.”
