GE highlights transformative software service solutions for industrial plants

GE Power (NYSE: GE) is providing transformative software service solutions for industrial plants in the energy sector through its partnerships with RasGas in Qatar and Engro, Sapphire and Saif in Pakistan.

The industrial internet solutions by GE are powered by Predix, the world’s first and only cloud-based operating system built exclusively for industrial assets, that bring unprecedented levels of productivity, efficiency and asset optimization.

Azeez Mohammed, President & CEO, Power Services - Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Sahara Africa, GE Power, said: “GE’s Industrial Internet is a game changer for the energy sector, enabling our partners in the region to optimize their assets for greater reliability, efficiency and productivity. This in turn helps to meet the growing demand for power. GE’s solutions bring higher power output at lower cost through improved efficiency across the energy spectrum – from power generation to power distribution to power users. The focus on predictive maintenance to avoid problems before they happen and the ability to drive performance improvement support our partners in achieving higher returns and long-term value for their assets.”

Digital LNG at Rasgas in Qatar

Among the major partnerships is the first global deployment of GE’s APM solutions by RasGas Company Limited (RasGas), one of the world’s largest producers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Qatar.  Created specifically to meet the needs of the LNG sector, the Predix Cloud solution is projected to extend the life of RasGas assets. It will also lower operating costs through greater efficiencies and optimize product chain across RasGas assets.

Marking the effective integration of big data and advanced analytics, the path-breaking solution will support process optimization across RasGas operations. It will capture and analyze the unique volume, velocity and variety of machine data within a highly secure, industrial-strength cloud environment, leading to higher reliability in operation and optimizing resource use efficiency. Serving as a one-stop optimized solution, it benefits the LNG sector in scaling up its efficiencies and productivity to meet the future growth goals of RasGas.

Digital Power Plant in Pakistan

In Pakistan, GE Power has announced three new significant contracts. The first is with Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited, a 217 MW independent power project and the only green facility of its kind in the country, to provide Industrial Internet solutions that will enhance operational performance and power plant reliability. Powered by Predix, GE Power will provide predictivity enhancement and performance improvement (PEPI) solutions for strengthening operations excellence.

GE Power is also supplying its APM solutions for the 234 MW power project by Sapphire Group near Lahore and for Saif Group’s 225 MW combined cycle thermal power project developed under the government’s power policy in Sahiwal. Both projects employ GE’s advanced 6FA turbines that offer among the highest fuel efficiency.

The PEPI solutions installed by GE Power include GE software, hardware and monitoring systems, customized for each site. These solutions will result in improving overall plant visibility with KPIs and reliability to reduce forced outages. All the solutions will be implemented as per GE’s engineering design principles.

GE’s Industrial Internet solutions support the plants in enhancing power generation using lesser fuel that will meet the growing and critical demand for electricity in the country. All the solutions are implemented as per GE’s engineering design principles. Supporting the plants to operate at optimal levels, GE’s solutions enable its partners to maximize returns on their investment and lower fuel costs.

GE harnesses the power of the Industrial Internet and delivers value to its customers via Asset Performance Management - software and technology that optimizes machines and operations to maximize business performance. Among the solutions include GE’s digital power plant with asset performance management, familiar alarms and reports, plus a ‘layer of optimization’ at the plant site, and ‘business optimization’ that connects the plant to traders and dispatchers. One set of cloud-based data can be used by different groups for different purposes.

GE has made a US$1 billion investment in the Industrial Internet, with more than 14,000 software professionals around the world working to optimize industrial asset performance and industrial operations. With Industrial Internet, GE is transforming itself into the world’s leading digital industrial company and supporting its partners to achieve big wins in a digital industrial economy.
