Forum highlights ills of drug addiction

The National Committee for Combating Drugs has launched an introductory forum on Monday, showcasing its projects and programs in Jeddah. The forum was organized in cooperation with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) and conducted under the auspices of Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal.

The two-day event included an exhibition, focused on combatting smuggling, drug trafficking, prevention and treatment of psychotropic substances along with the fight against addiction.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed.
The forum highlighted the committee’s projects, missions and objectives through a variety of themes and workshops. Detailed lectures and workshops were organized to provide accurate and reliable information to the community about the methods and routes used by the drug traffickers in carrying out their nefarious activities.
Maj. Gen. Ahmad Al-Zahrani, director general of GDNC, stated that the program offers awareness and measures for the protection of families from the dangers of drugs.
He claimed that the programs are aimed to unify efforts and integration, opening the way for everyone to contribute, support and participate through various programs for prevention and security of the society and nation.
He commended the forum’s efforts in uncovering methods used by traffickers.
“They are very much successful in their mission against drugs and smugglers but it is a battle which cannot be won alone ... To eradicate this dangerous scourge, they need help and support from all members of the society,” he said.
AbduliIlah bin Mohammed Al-Sharif, general secretary at the committee, commended the government’s keenness in fighting drug trafficking and protecting citizens from drug addiction.
Yusus Al-Ahmadi, a Saudi businessman, welcomed the initiative. “I invite my colleagues from the business sector to contribute and support this program for protecting the young people and their capabilities for the development of the homeland,” he said.
