ERICSSON WINS Fastest LTE Network and the Best Innovation In HetNet Development awards

Ericsson took home two prestigious awards at the 5G World MENA 2016 Awards Ceremony for Fastest LTE Network and the Best Innovation In HetNet Development during a ceremony held at the Conrad Hotel in Dubai. Ericsson’s Head of Mobile Broadband in Region Middle East, Rakesh Lakhani received the awards on Ericsson’s behalf.

Watching streaming videos, uploading pictures and using cloud-based services will make high demands on mobile networks. At the same time more devices will be connected. Heterogeneous Networks will play an important role to create an optimal customer experience, especially in crowded areas. Ericsson received the Best Innovation in HetNet Development award by addressing new challenges that LTE/5G network poses in managing the huge number of connected devices.

As for its Fastest LTE Network award, Ericsson announced new Ericsson Radio System software and hardware supporting 1 Gbps user peak rates and a hyper-scalable radio access network (RAN) architecture to improve both the performance and efficiency of today’s LTE technology, which will evolve to become part of 5G.

"As a company that takes pride in its culture of innovation,  we are proud to receive the awards as a recognition of our efforts." Said Rafiah Ibrahim, Head of Ericsson Region Middle East & Africa.

Ibrahim added, "With LTE subscriptions forecasted to reach 4.1 billion by the end of 2021, and increased data consumption per subscription, operators are presented with number of opportunities. Constant Network transformation and the implementation of the most advanced technologies is key to fulfill the increased consumer needs. Ericsson’s newest hardware and software address LTE growth opportunities while supporting the operator’s evolution to 5G.”

During the 5G World Series event, Ericsson showcased the journey to 5G, 5G for industries – including automotive – and 5G use cases; cellular for massive IoT; life in 2025, app coverage and app experience; and public transport including LTE rail and connected water, and the connected bus stop, amongst others at its stand.
