Endometriosis Awareness Campaign Week Ongoing at UAE Private and Public Hospitals
In an initiative led by the Emirates Endometriosis League and the Emirates Medical Association and a logistical support from Bayer HealthCare, an Endometriosis awareness campaign is ongoing this month in the week starting 22nd – 28th March, 2015. Endometriosis is a chronic disease that affects around 10% of women in the fertility age - regardless of their ethnicity or socioeconomic status - leading to chronic pelvic pain and painful menstrual periods. If the disease remains unchecked, it can lead to infertility. As part of this campaign, which is taking place in a number of private and public hospitals around the UAE, doctors and nurses will aim to improve patients’ awareness on endometriosis, its detection and how to protect themselves against its complications, by distributing written information and leaflets, while answering questions about the disease and how to deal with it. In addition to public hospitals like Latifa Hospital in Dubai, Al Qassimi, Al Corniche, Al Ain and Tawam, private hospitals including Medcare, Al Zahra, Saudi German Hospital in Dubai, Health Plus in Abu Dhabi and Al Nour, are participating in this campaign, which is the first of its kind in the UAE. Hospitals with their medical and administrative staff taking part in this campaign will recognize the significance of educating the medical and general public about the importance of raising awareness to control the disease progression and its effects on women, their families and their personal as well as economic lives.
