Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation and Chairman of Emirates Foundation, and in partnership with the Ministry of Education and attendance of His Excellency Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Kayed Al Qassimi, Special Advisor to Ruler of Ras Al-Khaimah and H. E. Engineer Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al-Qasimi, Chairman, Department of Civil Aviation Ras Al Khaimah,Think Science Fair -Ras Al Kahimah 2019 was held at RAK Exhibition Center the host sponsor in RAK, with the participation from 170 contestants from across schools and universities in RAK.
Outstanding Youth innovations were presented in RAK with special focus on smart systems highlighting projects that utilize the latest technologies in the banking industry as well as environmental innovations focused on water reuse and conservation.
During his visit to the fair, His Excellency Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Kayed Al Qassimi, Special Advisor to Ruler of Ras Al-Khaimah, expressed his deep appreciation to Emirates Foundation’s efforts to support and empower Emirati youth in science & technology and commended the students from RAK for their outstanding innovations and scientific endeavors in the Think Science Competition.
The Think Science RAK Fair comes following the success of the Fair in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah which witnessed the attendance of more than 20,000youth, the upcoming Think Science Fairs will take place in Fujairah on March 17th, and Ajman and Um Al Quwain on March 21st.
H.E. Maytha Al Habsi CEO at Emirates Foundation expressed her gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, member of the supreme council and ruler of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah for his continuous support and visionary outlook regarding the needs and aspiration of Youth across the UAE.
Al Habsi further elaborated: “Our presence today in Ras Al Khaimah is but an extension of the work we started over two years ago in the Northern Emirates and our determination to work closely with our strategic partners to train, equip and develop youth across the entire nation to become agents of change. Today we stand proud of the RAK youth whose innovations are but a testament to the talents and high potential present here in the Norther Emirates, and we stand committed to support and nourish their dream until they reach fruition.”
More than 50 partners from private and public sectors, academia and industry will deliver hundreds of science activities and workshops within their stands at the Think Science Fair 2019. These include the Fair’s strategic partners Occidental Petroleum, Total and ADNOC. The Energy partner the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, and other Fair sponsors and partners including Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, British Petroleum, Dolphin Energy Limited, Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance, PepsiCo, UAE Space Agency, Honeywell, and Etisalat the digital partner.
The Think Science Fair provides young people with the opportunity to engage with strategic scientific network, as well as to witness several interactive performances, workshops and educational sessions. In RAK edition of the fair, outstanding activities in the fields of robots and virtual reality were offered by Honeywell and Siemens LLC, in addition to a wide range of innovative and interactive workshops and scientific activities offered by United Arab Emirates University and Higher Colleges of Technology, that attracted hundreds of youth.
Since its launch in 2013, the Think Science Fair has attracted over 70,000 Youth and visitors who had the opportunity to engage and see around 1,340 projects from 3,700 contestants from across the UAE.
Think Science 2019 winners will be announced at a special award ceremony, where one winner per category will be announced as follows: First Place for each school category at each Emirate;
First Place for each university category; Think Science People’s Choice Award 2019, which is chosen by visitors voting live in each Emirate; Think Science Outstanding Display Award 2019 in each Emirate. In addition, and for the first time, this year’s competition will introduce the “National Geographic Kids Abu Dhabi Special Award focused on the Smart Systems and AI category
with a trip to Nasa in the United States. Lastly, an award will also be introduced this year for
schools and universities with the highest number of participating projects
