Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of Dubai’s maritime sector, is all set to launch Dubai Maritime Summit 2016 on the sidelines of the third edition of Dubai Maritime Week. Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, the event will take place on November 2, 2016 at The Address Dubai Marina. It will attract the participation of notable international maritime experts, senior government officials, key decision and policy makers, and pioneers involved in the regional maritime sector, including Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Dr. Abdullah bin Belhaif Al Nuaimi, UAE Minister of Infrastructure Development and the Chairman of Federal Transport Authority – Land and Maritime, said: “The UAE is proud of its past and present achievements in the maritime sector. The Dubai Maritime Summit is of significant interest to the international marine community as it is a key component of Dubai Maritime Week, the Middle East’s first comprehensive maritime event which will kick off on October 30, 2016. Dubai Maritime Week is recognized worldwide as one of the region’s most relevant maritime events organised to discuss the best international practices and innovative solutions with the aim of enhancing the competitiveness of the global maritime industry and building a robust, progressive and sustainable maritime economy.

Dubai Maritime Summit will launch of the first edition of the ‘Dubai Maritime Innovation Award’ to honour innovative initiatives that has driven the development and prosperity of local maritime sector, following which Todd Benjamin, Journalist and Broadcaster will open the session. Held over five sessions in presence of high level international speakers, the summit will cover topics, including the ‘The State of the Global Industry,’ ‘The Global Shipping Market,’ ‘Arbitration,’ and ‘Innovation in Maritime Sector.’ The session will conclude with discussions on ‘Maritime Regulation’ by international experts headed by Ashok Mahapatra, the Senior Deputy Director of the Maritime Safety Division in the IMO.
Aside from the Dubai Maritime Summit, Dubai Maritime Week 2016 will also feature the launch of Seatrade Maritime Middle East and the first edition of the UAE Maritime Leaders Seminar, among others, that will enrich the maritime sector of Dubai and the UAE.
