Dubai Customs to participate in Hamdan bin Mohammed Award with smart customer-centric initiatives

Dubai Customs is geared to take part in various categories of the 4th edition of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Award for Smart Government (HbMPSG), organized by Dubai’ The Model Centre, a subsidiary of the General Secretariat of the Executive Council.

A host of smart, customer-focused initiatives will make Dubai Customs’ submissions salient and stand out this year. Such initiatives stem from the innovation move undertaken by the organization and share a common goal of delivering better Customs services that make customers happier.

The Director of Dubai Customs, Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, said, “We, at Dubai Customs take great care to adhere fully to Dubai Model for Government Services when we upgrade our services and systems. By opting for only the best of Customs practices worldwide, Dubai Customs is keen on fulfilling the vision of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, to provide government services that rise above customers’ expectations.

“Hamdan Bin Mohammed Award for Smart Government is a strong incentive for all government departments and entities to go the extra mile and bring their best of services to the public.”

On his part, Hussam Juma Mohammed, Business Process and Enterprise Architecture Director and Head of Innovation Team at Dubai Customs, believes that the award offers a prime competitive platform for government agencies. “Dubai Customs will be a strong contender for the program awards this year, with multiple submissions in different categories,” he said.

Dubai Customs has prepared a line-up of ground-breaking initiatives to steal the show at the upcoming Hamdan Bin Mohammed Programme for Smart Government awarding ceremony to be held towards the end of this year. These are:

  • Smart Workspace: It is an unprecedented and creative initiative that has changed the future of providing electronic government services to customers. It links the ordinary electronic services offered by the government authorities in a sequential manner, especially the trade sector. Accordingly, the customer enjoys a new and unique experience through accomplishing all services and cutting down the time needed for the repeated process of data entry in a medium that provides a chart displaying the subsequent services.
  • Luggage Handling Improvement: It has been launched in the passenger terminal for improving customs clearance procedures through cleverly reducing cost and time and using smart devices and systems for checking and stopping the suspected luggage before reaching the final exit gate. Air Customs Centers Management has cooperated with the different internal sections to implement such initiative.
  • Issue of Means of Transport Cards: This initiative has played a significant role in saving the customer’s time and effort and reducing waiting time through use of the self-service device which makes it easier for the public to obtain means of transport cards in less than a minute.
  • Smart Gate: It is a cooperation initiative between Dubai Customs and Dubai Logistics City for improving the customs clearance service. It aims at smartly saving time and cost of customs clearance procedures through use of smart devices to accelerate exit of goods from the gates of the Logistics City.
