Dubai Culture and Global Village Welcomes VIPs to the Eighth ‘Live our Heritage Festival’

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, along with Global Village, the region’s largest and first multi-cultural festival park, welcomed senior VIPs to the eighth edition of its ‘Live our Heritage Festival’ under ‘An Eye on Emirati Cultural Heritage’ theme, held as part of both parties’ continues efforts to shed light on the UAE’s rich culture while representing variety of authentic handicrafts and traditional and folkloric performances to the millions of Global Village’s visitors.

 

The VIP visitors included: Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Hasher Al Maktoum and Her Highness Dr. Sheikha Hind bint Abdul Aziz Al Qassimi, Her Excellency Shamsa Saleh, Secretary-General of the UAE Gender Balance Council and CEO, Dubai Women Establishment, Dr. Faisal Albakeri, Advisor to HE the Minister of Education, Al Maha Al Bastaki, Director of The Cultural Office of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed Al Maktoum, and Her Excellency Ghaya Al Muhairi, Acting Director of Dubai Educational Zone. 

 

In addition to senior officials including: Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General at Dubai Culture, Bader Anwahi, CEO of Global Village, Mohammad Al Mansoori, CEO of Operations Support Sector at Dubai Culture, Dr.Salah Al Qassim Advisor at Dubai Culture, Dhaen Shahin, Chairman Advisor at Dubai Culture.  

 

The first week of the festival, which began on the 1st and runs until the 8th March, is focused on educating visitors about Palm Frond Braiding (Saf Al Khos) at workshops hosted by craftsmen teaching people about the concept of the craft and the various steps of weaving.  A number of other cultural activities are also taking place this week, including traditional folk dances and a variety of folk and traditional arts organised by the Omar bin Al Khattab Centre, which is one of Dubai’s Heritage Development Centres.  

 

The ‘Live Our Heritage Festival’ is held in cooperation with the Global Village, the Dubai Association of Folk Art, and Dubai Culture’s Dubai Heritage Development Centres.

 

Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the Emirate’s rich heritage with a variety of initiatives that take place throughout the year. The Authority’s mandate is to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures through enriching initiatives that benefit the Emirate’s citizens, residents and visitors.
