In a move focussed on pushing the innovation agenda in the UAE, a delegation from Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD) visited the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation. The activity formed part of the department’s commitment to being at the forefront of the development of the innovative economy and to playing an integral role in promoting the culture of positive creativity within the country’s vital government sector.
During the visit, DSCD was able to find out more about the best practices adopted by the centre to develop the business environment and to enrich it with the latest innovative ideas. The department’s representatives discussed with their counterparts methods that will enable DSCD to achieve its goals of providing and exchanging high quality and accurate data in compliance with international standards.
“DSCD is pushing ahead with its ambitious strategy in keeping with the vision and aspirations of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to develop human resources and to harness the power of people for progress and development. The department embraces innovation to make the most of knowledge and expertise and is committed to trying non-conventional methods to accelerate its plans for progress,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Director of DSCD.
The visit saw the DSCD delegation acquaint itself with the centre’s wide spectrum of technologies used in its communications, as well as its initiatives that ensure integration in work performance and find solutions to challenges. The DSCD representatives viewed the tools adopted by the centre as ‘innovation enablers’ that emphasise the role of innovation as being instrumental in improving the quality of government services and helping government entities achieve their desired goals.
“Our visit to the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation comes in line with the activities we have already undertaken in this sphere. DSCD has in place an action team that is seeking to develop new and creative methods that ensure total quality in all projects implemented by the department. The team shoulders the responsibility of instilling the culture of innovation among DSCD staff, with the aim of enhancing work systems. It participates in initiatives and innovation workshops organised by Sharjah government entities and monitors the various techniques and procedures designed to help DSCD evolve new and more sophisticated approaches to its work,” added Sheikh Mohammed.
Shatha Al Hashimi, Director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, said: “The DSCD visit emphasised the high level of interdependence and integration between various government bodies in the country. It is clear that DSCD strives to be at the forefront of innovation through its diligence in keeping up-to-date with sophisticated work models. DSCD continues to advance its methods, which encourages us to strengthen our cooperation and partnership with it.”
She added: “DSCD is the main source of information and data flow in the emirate designed to enable the comprehensive development of the UAE. The visit from the DSCD delegation comes within the framework of integration between government bodies that depend on a modern and updated database that serves as the key driver to develop government performance across all departments.”
The DSCD delegation was received by Shatha Al Hashimi, Director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, who gave presentations on the centre’s work mechanism. Colonel Dr. Nasser Al Hamrani, deputy Director of the Total Quality Department at Dubai Police, introduced to the representatives the best practices adopted by the department in the area of total quality. He also highlighted the efforts by the department to ensure the happiness of its employees by allowing them to work in an environment that stimulates innovation and creativity.
