Muhammad Al-Umrah, the director general of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) in Asir, has admitted that it is very difficult to renovate and restore the nearly 4,000 historical villages in the region according to the information provided by the Urban Observatory.

He noted that the project entitled "Asir: Robe of Urbanization" gave visitors and citizens a perception of the importance of heritage places and their contribution to developing and renovating such sites.

At the conclusion of an event held in Akkas village in Abha, Al-Umrah said that the project aims to highlight the rich history of the region through the launch of art galleries, lectures and other architectural and heritage activities such as the display of handicrafts, introduction of popular local meals, traditional dresses and tools, among other things.
He said that all of these activities helped visitors and citizens to be more aware of the beauty that exists in these seemingly dilapidated buildings.

"The secretary of Asir, Dar Al-Hekma University and the residents of the village all joined efforts to prepare the location for the event by cleaning the yards and paths, and opening up some buildings for use, which are still suitable for holding such an event," he said.
